“TAKE ONLY MEMORIES, LEAVE ONLY FOOTPRINTS”Chief Seattle
So, now that I have my new vehicle I decided to go out for a bit, even though it was a bit on the chillier side. Almost everything from my lips to my toes started freezing after awhile, but I still kept at it for awhile. You know, because I’m me. The first place I wanted to visit, besides the gas station, was Lake Wedington in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
I can throughly say that I’m very glad to have a vehicle that I can take off road. Well, officially, because I used to take my cars in some rough areas. 😂 I’ve never gotten stuck bedore, however; almost doesn’t count. 😅👍 Like someone told me the other day: anything can be an off-road vehicle if you try hard enough.
Located on the west end of Fayetteville, AR lies this scenic 102-acre lake and 424-acre recreation area. The park completed construction in 1938 by Works Progress Administration. This beautiful land is home to a hiking trail, fishing, campsites, swimming areas, beautiful landscape, even in the winter, and many more amenities.
Feeling like having a family night? Go check out 1 of 18 of this site’s family units. Feeling like having a picnic? The recreation area has 19 picknicking sites for you to choose from.
I am thinking that the lake was drained for maintenance, which I have not seen before. The dock is gone, whether from bad whether or plain old wear and tear I do not know, but trust me: it was on its last legs. Me being me, I could not stand by and not take the chance to walk out on the lakebed, but explorer beware: some areas you better not walk on or else you might start sinking, no joking.
You know, whilst walking on the lake bed I discovered some interesting things, the least of which includes reasons why my line got caught while fishing! Talk about irritation to the max. Well, I found bottles, bottle caps, tangled line (probably mine), I think a rod handle ( that must have been one mighty fish!) and what looks like something out of a science-fiction, alien film.
The lake and recreation area seems to boast a little of everything, from rental cabins, camping and mountain biking to hiking, swimming, volleyball and horseshoe. I, personally, only go for one thing: fishing. If you love fishing, as I do, then you can come and catch a wide variety of fish from this regularly stocked lake. Here you can find, bream, bass and, of course, catfish. Yes, even during the winter you can catch fish, you’ll just have to fish outside of the recreation.
I forgot to take a photo of this, bust across the street from one of the pull-off areas are two small ponds to try your hand at. I do not recommend this at all since you will only catch more attitudes and more headaches and drivers coming around the curve can be speeding. I mention this because I feel like it would be remiss of me not to.
One “pro” tip: I highly recommend getting a boat so you can move around. I’ve never caught anything at the dock except for 3 headaches and an attitude; I think the fish have gotten too smart for that one. However, if you were to go there relatively soon from the date of this posting or another time when the lake is drained you *may* be able to walk to the deeper parts where the ground is very sturdy. Explorer beware, however. If you do this you do so at your own risk.
Please use caution, reason and common sense. I am always going to advocate safety first.
Before the lake refills, I highly suggest giving these photos another once over and/or my video to know where to and not to throw your fishing line; some things just make sense to me now, like why I kept getting caught in certain areas. I knew it wasn’t my skills!
If you want to do visit one of Arkansas’s gems, here is the address:
State Road 16Lake Weddington Entry Rd, Fayetteville, AR, 72704
Recreation.gov list the street address as 15592, others list it as 15689. Either way, you will find it for there will be signs.
If you haven’t guessed by now, I like to take random photos of things. For some reason they just catch my eye. Continue scrolling for more pictures.
Thank you for reading this!
Part 1 of 2 of my video will be released at a later time, I am currently having technical difficulties. Thank you for being patient. Merry Christmas!
