First Step On Your Journey

“To travel is worth any cost or sacrifice”

— Elizabeth Gilbert.

Hello Drifters,

So, I didn’t know where I was going to start with this, but I am just going to go for it. Why not, right? Anyways, traveling. That may illicit many emotions for you. What emotions comes up first? Happiness, sadness, nervous…shame? Yes, shame. Believe it or not, but many people out here will shame you for having an idea, goals, an ambition. They will make you feel embarrassed and try their hardest to shame you into oblivion, or at least until you cowtail to their whims and wishes. Guess what? They will be the first ones that turn their backs on you saying they never told you to do such thing down the line. Humans can be so predictable like that.

Lookahere, life is way too short for all of that nonsense. This is your life so make the most of it. Now, I am not saying abandon your responsibilities, like if you have a spouse and children, I am just saying make the most of this life. It is 2019, families as a whole are traveling so you go on and go for it! I will be putting together a budget travel post or ten as time goes on, as well as regular posts so look forward to that.

Oh! Did I mention that I am going to be keeping it real up in here? Yes, I am. I will not sugarcoat things for the sake of feelings or whatever. The reason being is that no one gains anything from that. So, when it comes to real life advice, I’m keeping it real. When it comes to traveling, I’m keeping it real. When it comes to language-learning, guess what? I’m keeping it real.

My goal is to encourage people to get up and travel, learn or language or more, as well as to live their best life possible. Misery loves company, don’t attract it on your journey. Traveling is worth it, you are worth so go for it, it is very much worth it.

When you travel you are not only traveling for you, but for others, too; you are an ambassador of your country. Shocking, huh? Yep, it’s true. Your behavior, demeanor and more shows others how people from your country act. Now, don’t take that 100%. When I was first told this I was going overseas for deployment. As time went on and I continued to travel and speak to others around the world I found out that this still holds true as a civilian.

Think about this: how many times have you seen someone, anyone, acting a certain that’s from another country and you depicted everyone from that country to be that way, in general? Or, what about those you know in real life? It happens everyday. Now, don’t worry I am not saying you must be like a nun in another country, but just to watch out and be aware of yourself and your surroundings. I’d say this even more due to the climate we are in; I am all about unity and not division, swapping stories and not stones. Sounds like a hippie? Naw, I say just like a decent human being.

Go out and explore; the more knowledge you gain the more power you gain and the better storyteller you become. Don’t be afraid. If you need encouragement I’ve got you. You got this, just go for it; the time is now, not tomorrow. Tomorrow is not guaranteed and the past is done. Today is a gift, that’s why it’s called “the present”. Have no fear, you’ve got this. I believe in you.

Until next time Drifters and feel free to contact me on social media and leave comments.
